Improving the Employment of People with Disabilities Through Technology

The U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy will hold a live webcast called Accessibility and Emerging Technology – Keys to Improving the Employment of People with Disabilities on August 16, 2012 from 2 - 3 p.m. Eastern Time. During this free event, panelists will discuss their views on the challenges and opportunities of emerging technologies, cloud computing and mobile applications in the workplace. Assistive technology for pharmacists with disabilities

There are a number of different types of assistive technologies that can help pharmacists working in the retail or clinical environment. In both of these settings, you may be required to move around on a regular basis. If your disability is related to mobility, then you may benefit from assistive technology devices. Assistive technology or adaptive technology (AT) is an umbrella term that includes assistive, adaptive, and rehabilitative devices for people with disabilities and also includes the process used in selecting, locating, and using them. AT promotes greater independence by enabling people to perform tasks that they were formerly unable to accomplish, or had great difficulty accomplishing, by providing enhancements to or changed methods of interacting with the technology needed to accomplish such tasks.
